After all of the bullshit, strangeness, and occasionally neat new innovations from 2021, there is more than enough to write on for my purposes. That doesn’t mean that I’d like to remember all of it, but there are some exciting things worth going back to.
But when I tried to, I found that it was harder to do than I thought.
For one, PornHub did not publish its annual demographic report for 2020/ Not only that, but it seems like other sources that often blog about trends in the online sex business did not do so in the same abundance the previous year.
What I find especially odd is the fact that everyone was noting that there was a sharp uptick in people viewing porn at the start of the lockdowns. You would think then that there would be more data to work with and report on.
However, I was still not deterred. To keep you informed and entertained with content that you might not be familiar with, I’ve gone through and scrubbed the net for research. So here we go – these are the more interesting trends, searched categories, popular starlets, and sites of the weirdest year in living memory.
Trending names and search terms were interesting
Celebrities
Does anyone else remember when Carmen Electra was dating Denis Rodman? Well, I imagine that a lot of my geekier and younger readers won’t, but it doesn’t really matter. Parts of their relationship were featured in the ESPN documentary The Last Dance in the spring of 2020.
As a consequence, daily searches for Electra went from a mere 1,500 a day and then spiked into the hundreds of thousands at the end of April. By the way, I would suggest looking up her old material. While most of it is of the vanilla variety, she did do good work with Playboy back in the day.
Other famous persons who have seen a rise in popularity on porn sites last year – despite not actually being in the skin biz – included Kylie Jenner and Miley Cyrus, once again. What’s more, after her wet ass pussy dropped online with her video of the same famous chorus, Cardi B saw an incredible rise in searches for her hourglass figure for quite a lot.
Come to think of it; I’m sure her posts on OnlyFans probably had a lot to do with that, too.
Other celebrities who have experienced a massive boom in traffic at various points of the year include (relatively) recent additions to the industry, including Belle Delphine and Maitland Ward. Given how hot their smut is, that comes as no surprise to me.
BDSM
I don’t know if this has anything to do with the Fifty Shades series, the sexual liberation of women since the ’60s, or something else, but women are really interested in BDSM nowadays. Female PornHub users were 86% more likely to search for that term. To put some additional numbers on that, the only other demographic which came close were gay men, who were only 12% more likely to use that search term.
Speaking of gays, if you didn’t know, women that year and well before that were already into seeing mano y mano porn, too. And these days, they seem to like the intersection of both since ‘gay BDSM’ was 163% more likely to look for that than men. Moreover, other terms ladies were far more likely to look up include ‘spanked and fingered,’ ‘dominant-submissive,’ and ‘punishment.’
And if you think it’s middle-aged housewives who are looking for such material, guess again. Women below age twenty-five were somewhat more likely to be into this sort of smut, and those over fifty-four were by far the most common demographic to be into the aforementioned forms of fap movies.

Video games
Just like porn, video games are pretty much ubiquitous in society, so I guess it is no surprise that these twin forms of entertainment are starting to merge together. There are plenty of mods out there when it comes to popular franchises from Minecraft to Roblox.
(FYI, buckle up when you read that second reference – it’s super strange, and that’s coming from me!)
But those tend to be modified and hacked versions of existing programs. What I find to be especially interesting, and so do many other people, are original erotic depictions featuring popular game characters.
For instance, after the remake came out, Final Fantasy VII started trending online when it came to porn searches toward the beginning of 2020. While I’ve never found this franchise to be something that is considered sexy, upon its 35th anniversary, the Mario franchise grabbed the attention of gamers and porn consumers alike.
While it was launched in 2018, Among Us blew up with game enthusiasts in autumn of 2020, as did those who surfed around PornHub. In fact, at its peak, searches for parodies of the now-famous deduction game reached 700,000 a day. This means that this game is the most searched video game term on PornHub, second only to Fortnite.

Italian women
As you all know, I find women to be beautiful no matter the shape, size, or color that they come in. But I gotta say that there is nothing wrong with having a preference at all.
It would appear that, as of late, a growing number of Italian women are into lovely ladies who hail from the peninsula of Italia. Trending search terms include ‘italiano,’ ‘dialoghi italiano,’ and ‘pompino.’ There are also loads of queries for lesbian search terms as well.

However, it has only been since the start of 2020 that this tube has become the most popular tube the net has ever seen, according to the number of page hits they’ve received. Even after The Great Purge at the end of last year, this website still has an impressive 3.5 million videos uploaded and counting.
Once again, there are several other tubes that I could have mentioned, but I only have so much time to describe the many other tubes out there. If you want even more suggestions, I’ve got dozens more that I have reviewed in detail.
