Keeping with the Chinese prophecy (or a curse?) we live in interesting times to say the very least. Between all of the crazy reactions, people have been having to this year, especially when it comes to people’s sexual habits this year.If you don’t believe me, just do a quick check of the past uploads I’ve done in the past couple of months. But one thing which I don’t think even I saw coming – at least in its entirety – was the massive purge that hit PornHub couple of years ago and the site was never the same again.
This is the background information on the epic event
For those not in the know, PornHub has always been at least a little controversial despite being the go-to destination for adult entertainment. To be real, most of the flack the world’s number one tube site is either made up or at least largely blown out of proportion.
However, things have come to a head (no pun intended) after months of pressure on MindGeek’s flagship website. For one, a petition to have k*ddie porn removed from the site got well over 425,000 signatories after a series of accusations have come forth that smut featuring m*nors has appeared on the site.
(To be honest, I don’t know how true that all is since I don’t go looking for that sick shit.)
Along with all of that, people had complained that there were uploads that should non-consensual sexual behavior as well. This reputation has earned the site the scorn of the popular press in recent times which led to credit card companies preventing customers from paying for premium content on PornHub.
Of course, the other big problem that PornHub and all other tubes have had is the issue of cyberpiracy and copypasta. And so, with all of these problems, on Monday, December 14th 2020 PornHub posted that they were engaged in “the most comprehensive safeguards in user-generated platform history.”
Specifically, the porn giant had and would continue a policy of:
• preventing unverified profiles from adding new content of any sort
• requiring uploaders to verify by taking a pic of themselves holding a face shot and username
• eliminating the download option of most videos on the platform
• purging any and all content that had not been created by verified PornHub users
That last point was in practice perhaps the most dramatic since the total number of videos went from 13.5 million to under 3 million.
(Geez, I mean I knew there were a lot of copied videos, but holy Christ, that’s a lot.)
Amusingly, PornHub staff poked fun at TikTok, Facebook, and other popular social media companies for not having the same safety measures that they now have.
Let’s see what all happens with this
Anyway, even with such a massive shift in policy, I gotta say I’m kind of uneasy – not because r*pist and other sick fuckers are having their shit pulled. Rather, this to me seems like an attempt to avoid regulatory interference which may not be successful.
Even if it is, I’d imagine that perfectly innocent people have had their content pulled and channels shutdown in the wake of all of this.
Putting my lingering cynicism aside, there is a reason to relax – or should I say – there are fifteen reasons to do so.
