Dua Lipa is currently one of the most popular and talked-about musicians in the world, and while not that many people knew of her prior to 2020, it’s safe to say that the 2020s are all hers. Dua released her first studio album in 2017, but it took some traction for her to really get going and become as famous as she is today. I mean nowadays she’s all the rage, as millions of guys and gals worldwide simp for her.

That being said, it definitely took her a few years of consistent music output to get to this level of global superstardom, despite the fact that she’s been on the scene since 2017. And no, when I mentioned that millions of people around the world simp for her, I wasn’t exaggerating - Dua’s got scores of devoted fans, many of whom love her as much as they love her music. I mean just take a look at her, she’s a total stunner, a certified diva, and an absolute brunette bombshell, so it’s no surprise that there are literally millions of guys and gals (but mostly guys) out there who go “awooooga” and start to bang the table and hit themselves in the head with a comically large hammer just from the sight of Dua alone. Technically Speaking, Her Career Initially Kicked Off At Age 14

Dua wasn’t always a globally famous number-one Billboard charts artist with multiple awards and nominations. But, she was well and truly on the path to becoming one even long before her first album debuted. As a matter of fact, Dua’s initial exposure to fame was back when she was a teenage YouTuber - that’s right, back in the days, a young 14-year-old Dua used to upload covers of popular songs on her YouTube channel, which over time grew in size and popularity. Some of her best and most viewed covers which she uploaded to her early YouTube channel include If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys, Beautiful by Christina Aguilera, I’m Yours by Jason Mraz, Stay by Rihanna, Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack and You’re Beautiful by James Blunt. As she continued to post covers and develop her musical style, her subscriber count and view counts grew steadily.

Over time, her YouTube channel became a platform for showcasing her talent and building a dedicated fan base, setting the stage for her later success in the music industry. While she may not have been a global sensation at age 14, her early YouTube presence laid the foundation for her eventual rise to international stardom as a recording artist.

That said, by the time Dua released her first official studio album, she was more than ready to take on everything that fame brings with it, and to this day, she’s one of the most consistently successful famous celebrities on the globe - she’s pretty much everywhere at this point, releasing hit after hit, or appearing in high profile music collaborations, so it’s safe to say that she came a very long way from her early YouTube days - heck, at this point she came a very long way since her self-titled 2017 studio album debut.

In 2017, Dua Released Her Debut Self-Titled Album And Gained Worldwide Fame As A Result

Dua Lipa's debut self-titled album was a significant milestone in her career, with the track "New Rules" in particular being easily the most popular track from the whole roster of 12 different tracks that are featured on it. “New Rules” was without a doubt a massive hit that instantly gained widespread attention due to its empowering message and catchy pop sound, and it along with its captivating music video undoubtedly helped Dua firmly establish herself as a new up-and-coming music artist on the global pop music scene. The album was released on June 2, 2017, and many of its songs alongside “New Rules” were instant summer hits. The album’s release (not to mention its title) was officially Dua’s introduction to the world, as through it Dua’s voice was heard on radio speakers all across the globe, introducing her to millions of listeners as “the hot new thing” in pop music.

The album itself features a solid 12 tracks, with some of the standouts being "Be the One," "IDGAF," and "Hotter than Hell alongside the already mentioned “New Rules." As for the genre, Dua Lipa is a pop sensation, so her genre is of course pop - however, pop can be complex and include many different kinds of sounds. That said, Dua’s unique take on the genre (at least on this album) blends a combination of different and diverse sounds from a variety of genres and sub-genres, including R&B, electropop, and dance-pop. In a nutshell, the whole album’s sound is characterized by the hypnotic combination of its contemporary production and of course Dua Lipa's distinctive vocals.

Then In 2020, Her Second Studio Album Cemented Her Status As A Globally Famous Musician

Dua Lipa's second studio album "Future Nostalgia" which was released on March 27, 2020, was also successful just like her debut album, despite the fact that it was released at a time when COVID-19 was starting to spread around the world. But even Covid couldn’t stop this album from becoming wildly successful - the project features 11 different tracks, and at least a third of them were Billboard hits, including "Don't Start Now," "Physical," "Levitating," and the title track, "Future Nostalgia." After Future Nostalgia Dua Lipa basically became a certified celebrity - she was featured pretty much everywhere on sites and news apps next to articles that talked about the sheer chaos that Covid was wreaking on the world back then. But Covid or not, the then 24-year-old Dua Lipa was definitely put “on the map” of globally famous pop musicians after this album’s release.

If she was only famous in the UK prior to 2020, then you can be damn sure that the whole world knew about her after 2020, which is why I mentioned at the beginning of this review that not that many knew who Dua Lipa was before 2020. And just like Dua’s first album, Future Nostalgia’s sound also blends several different sub-genres, all of which are somewhere in the spheres of pop, RnB, dance, and electro. Of course, it’s safe to say that pretty much all modern-day pop music is a blend of those aforementioned genres and sub-genres, however, in Dua’s case, her vocals, background and of course, her looks are what seal the deal for her fans.

It’s Safe To Say That She’s Had Quite A Fruitful Music Career

Dua’s had an incredible run as a pop musician, managing to win three whole Grammys, three Brit awards, and a slew of other awards including over a dozen MTV awards, all before the age of 30. In 2019 Dua won her first Grammy award for Best New Artist at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. Then in 2021 at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, she won the award for Best Pop Vocal Album for her “Future Nostalgia” album, as well as an additional award for Best Dance Recording for her song “Electricity”, which was released as a collaboration between her and Silk City. Silk City, if you didn’t know, is the name for a musical duo consisting of the super-famous and talented artists Diplo and Mark Ronson, and when a musician collaborates with Mark Ronson and Diplo, it’s hard for them to fail, so it’s no surprise to see that Dua’s had such a fruitful career with dozens upon dozens of music awards under her belt.

She’s also won three separate Brit awards in 2018, specifically for the categories British Female Solo Artist, British Breakthrough Act, and British Single for the Year. But these are only her biggest awards, as Dua’s also won a plethora of other musical awards at high-profile award shows and ceremonies. In fact, if you look at her Wikipedia bio, you’ll be able to see that this young artist has been winning awards since 2016, and by now she’s easily got over 100 unique awards for her musical efforts. That being said, it wouldn’t be too farfetched to establish that Dua Lipa is one of the most accomplished music artists in the industry right now, and it’s hard to imagine her slowing down or stopping anytime soon. Plus, she isn’t even 30 yet, so she’ll definitely win herself at least another Grammy or two by the time she decides to officially retire.
