Pornstars really do come from all walks of life, don’t you think? I’ve written plenty before about famous people who did erotic acting and porn performances before they were “discovered” by the mainstream.
But in this post, we’re going to be looking at people who were already famous before they did, or almost got into adult films.
Nadya Suleman – DID PORN
If the legal name is throwing you for a loop, think Octomom. If you’re drawing a blank, no this isn’t a weird hentai reference, Suleman got famous for being accidentally artificially inseminated with eight children during her second pregnancy.
Her story was even more scandalous as she already had six other, older children and was a single, divorcee. On top of that, between her existing offspring and eight new ones – all of whom she kept, by the way – the already less-than-wealthy single woman was going to face hard financial times.
As you would expect, this led to a media firestorm and, in my opinion, a bizarre fascination with her story. Suleman got tons of interviews all over the place, but all of this attention didn’t get her much meaningful work.
Instead, Suleman filed for bankruptcy for a crushing one million, and in April 2012, she revealed she was on welfare.
Sometime before this, she had been given offers to do porn, which she rejected on religious grounds. As part of her objection, n addition to being celibate for 14 years, Nadya claimed she had never masturbated.
After the bankruptcy and getting a lucrative deal from Brad Armstrong at Wicked Pictures and starred in Octomom Home Alone.
I don’t know what she thinks about it now, but I did see an interview where Sulmen defended herself from some stuck up prudes in an interview. I do know that this film did get plenty of positive recognition from the adult industry.
Spencer Pratt – GOT AN OFFER
Later on, I’ll mention Rachel Summer bit part in Laguna Beach and, while Summer is hot, the drama she first got famous through was not. Well, as with most things that the hacks at networks on MTV do, they managed to create a spinoff The Hills.
The details don’t really matter, but the format and premise are pretty much the same, just the same show in a new location with a fresh coat of paint. Of the many characters, Spencer Pratt and his girlfriend at the time, Heidi Montag, had become known as villains of the series.
After the show ended, the pair bounced from reality show to television interview while spreading baseless rumors and innuendo.
Apparently, these antics were enough for Michael Lucas, the visionary and owner of the gay site Lucas Entertainment to do some scenes with him. As far as I know, it’s not public as to how much Pratt was offered, but it was supposed to be damn good money.
Despite being heterosexual, you might guess that someone who thrives on surprising everyone would take the money and bone, but I guess not.
Rachel Swimmer – DID PORN
Way back when MTV made the infamous transition from showing, you know, actual music to trash reality television, they did start broadcasting a good deal of material which bordered on porn. Way before Jersey Shore, docu-dramas like The Real World had some pretty steamy, albeit censored, scenes peppered throughout several episodes.
One of the personalities on the “reality show” Laguna Beach, Rachel Swimmer, was technically a supporting character who appeared in the third, final season. Side note: the whole drama features a bunch of students in Laguna Beach High School and honestly isn’t worth watching. I’d recommend looking up Swimmer’s later work.
Anyway, that minor appearance seems not to do much for her, but after graduating from UCLA, she proved that she could perform in front of the camera by modeling for Penthouse, Club, and Playboy, among other adult magazines.
This was only the start of Swimmer showing off her swimsuit model body as she, then known as Tasha Reign, went headlong into hardcore porn in 2010. Her first of several videos were done with Lethal Hardcore, which included a major title Anchorman: A XXX Parody.
A couple of years later, she launched her own exclusive promotional site, then production studio and sex toys, to promote her brand and sex-positivism. Having seen some of her work, I, for one, am certainly glad that she did.
This innocent girl-next-door type was once quoted as saying, “I actually knew I wanted to be naked in front of the camera since I was in high school.” I suppose it’s no surprise that she has since defended other harassed porn performers like Belle Knox and the industry as a whole.
On that last note about her coming up with the idea of going into the adult industry in high school, I say keep ’em coming to LBHS.
Miley Cyrus – GOT AN OFFER
The former Disney television star got a reputation as a wholesome, Midwestern American girl who could sing well during her early-teen years. Her early career after her TV appearances, she became a teen and tween idol, recorded youth-friendly soundtracks, and went on tour.
But, like so many of these people who become rich and famous in their early years, she came in like a wrecking ball and smashed her perception as an innocent girl circa 2010.
Instead of being cutesy and tame, her song lyrics and music became raunchy as hell, she dyed her hair platinum blond with a pixie cut, and by 2013 “crossed a line” with parts of her conservative base turned critical.
During the 2013 MTV VMA awards, Cyrus, while wearing a skimpy latex outfit, performed with Robin Thicke randomly started grinding against him.
I, for one, think we should thank Cyrus since she popularized the whole twerking dance move.
Anyway, everyone from Glenn Beck to the mass of the angry moms of the Western world was outraged by this and whinged for weeks on end. Recognizing the already made superstar who was evidently comfortable being hardly clothed and erotic in front of millions of people, Miley got an offer from the porn online retailer GameLink.
Specifically, they were going to pay her an impressive one million dollars and part of their letter to Cyrus they now famously wrote…
“We at GameLink feel this gives you the chance to finally show the world you are not a little girl anymore… Please consider GameLink’s unique offer if you really want to shake things up and create a buzz while feeding your creativity.”
Well, I certainly agree she’s not little anything, but I do wish they specified what Cyrus’ scene was supposed to have in it. Needless to say, she hasn’t responded, which is too bad, seeing as GameLink sells some awesome smut.

Maitland Ward – DID PORN
Yes, Boy Meets World fans, this ’90s sitcom star has been doing porn and still does. Over two decades, this gorgeous woman had no problem getting decent work on television on comedies and soap operas.
Fortunately, for us, she had the smart idea to leverage her amazing assets.
I’m sure this is news to most of you since she’s a new addition to the industry being a performer as of the summer of 2019. She got into the porn business, but before that, she was already showing off her lovely body for the world to see.
Around 2013, Maitland was posting nude selfies to Instagram and Snapchat, which began to trend among voyeuristic circles. To take things to the next level, she came out stark naked while being body painted by one Luciano Paesani during an art exhibit.
Going back to her formal entry into the skin business, Ward joined an adult agency and even grabbed the attention of Kayden Kross, who was/is a director. Further, she’s been in 46 films so far, according to IAFD, and that’s just so far. Since she’s considered her transition to being a smart business decision and clearly loves being naked, I’m sure we’ll see far more of this wonderful woman.
