The adult world has received some bad news yet again. Just weeks after Tumblr implemented a blanket ban on adult content, another popular hentai porn site – Hentai Haven (HH) has closed down.
The website http://www.hentaihaven.org is no longer working, and neither is its Twitter and Facebook accounts. The site has been down since Dec 19 and even the official HH merchandise official page, despite being operational even when the main site was shut down, has also been removed. What’s more, even Google has excluded the site from its index. It appears the site has been completely wiped out of the internet.
What exactly happened?
We may never know the real reasons behind the shutdown unless the founders offer a clarification. The site only gave a vague explanation as to why it was shutting down: “As a wise man once said, every journey must come to an end – and unfortunately, it ain’t the happy kind this time. There’s plenty of options out there now,” reads part of the official statement.
Following the unfortunate event, people have been speculating with different theories brought forth. Some are claiming a Russian interference and are seeing the shutdown as an attempt by the Russian government to prevent people from accessing adult content. Pornhub statistics indicate that Russia is one of the largest consumers of hentai porn. However, there has been no official statement from Moscow, yet we are not expecting one either.
Another explanation is the tightening laws regarding porn content. According to the hacker group- Anonymous the site’s servers were hosted in Australia and the country has been coming down hard on porn which could be another reason as to why HH was shut down. Meanwhile, a Reddit thread claims that a HH alternative is in development and with top-tier videos quality.
Legal issues could also be a reason for the shutdown. It is to be remembered that the site lost its ‘loli’ tag due to legal reasons and Google may have received copyright complaints against HH.
Latest developments
There have been some positive movements behind the scenes since I wrote this piece. It appears Fakku have stepped in to try and help keep Hentai Haven online for a little longer. Just a few days ago, it looked certain to be a bad ending to 2018 for HH, but it appears there might be some reprieve after all!
If you visit the official HentaiHaven.org website, you will see a notice from the owners with a simple message: “We’re teaming up with FAKKU to save HH! More details soon.” The goodbye message left by the site has also been cancelled. We don’t know the exact implications of this move, but it’s certainly good news to hentai fans who had been devastated by the news if its closure. You can watch the announcement here.
Fakku is an adult digital content distribution network and they are likely teaming up with HH to stream their content while also availing adult oriented games from the digital storefront. It’s a matter of wait and see and as usual, I’ll certainly keep my ears on the ground for new development. But as things stand, it appears hentai haven may have been spared the embarrassment of being relegated to the internet’s digital graveyard.
